When we remain at the foot of the Cross, we are never alone. Always, Mary is there.
It's when we try to run from the Cross that we are alone.

Yes. And when we remain at the foot of the Cross, those who dare not raise their eyes to Mary just yet, can lean a weary head against Mary of Magdala who will ease us out of our deserved reticence.

(Did God take that picture? That is the most benevolent photo I've ever seen. Thank you for both these gems.)

God did not take that picture, but He DID compose it. That was an amazing storm front - picture taken from my back deck.

"those who dare not raise their eyes to Mary just yet..."
Dare to raise your eyes to Mary!
Don't let the enemy convince you that you are not worthy to look up to her with pleading eyes. Mothers are, by nature, merciful, and mercy always reaches down to what is lowest.

True, but most mothers aren't virgins and completely sinless! I am content to look at her lovely feet while my sisters instruct me in her stead. If knees weren't so creaky, I could sit Indian-style at my sisters' feet, but for now I am leaning against shins, thankful, and hope I'm never too heavy.

Honora you are a master of understatement... :-)

Kathryntherese, the photo is astounding! It looks like God was having fun making smoke rings that day...

Honora, we are never worthy to look into her face, but we are to become as little children - totally unself-conscious and eager for all that is good and beautiful!

Be a child and dare to look up!

"O Mary, mystical rose, with loving heart, burning with the living fire of charity, Thou didst accept us for thy children at the foot of the cross, becoming thus our tender Mother!" (from the Chaplet in Honour of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows).

And yet, because she has mentioned it elsewhere as well, if I were a sculptor I would like to fashion Honora leaning on the shins of Mary Magdalen. I guess it wouldn't really end up looking like Honora, though, but like a composite of many of us.

It's not that, but thank you, Lady K. I am sure she is advocating for me, as for all souls. I take it on faith that she is Mother to all, and that she hs obtained many graces for me and mine. Perhaps a lack of closeness indicates that I do not turn to her often enough.

Gabrielle, possibly so, since she represents all sinners who have allowed themselves to be redeemed and transformed by Love.
