There is no such thing for us as a definitive “YES.”
We must decide again each moment to reach for best,
choosing who we are and what we will become
by remembering where we’re going, and from whence we come.
We must keep consciously choosing to be third,
neighbor being second, and always first, the Word.

Well, I've never actually wobbled on the "yes" to an offer of cheesecake; that's been a definitive "do with me as you will!" (I'm going to be longer in Purgatory than all the rest of you, aren't I?)

How very true and thus a wonderful reminder -- that it's not just a one-time "yes" we give. Not for any of us. And if you've ever seen the scene in "Liar, Liar" where Jim Carrey beats himself up in the men's room, then you'll know what I do to myself spiritually whenever I've found that my 'yes' has slid into having become a 'no'. UGH. Well, such as that is indeed going to happen despite the best laid plans of mice and men, and some folks get trapped and paralyzed in that moment of self-defeat before God if not also before men. To get up and move out from that selfish 'no', again, and to say 'yes' then, is when 'yes' weighs the most, not only in labor, but in love. Being from Love, we ought to be heading toward it always. We can't possibly help propel anyone else toward Love without our living it, and that begins with Yes. Amen, God first, neighbor second, self last. Lord, help my prioritizing.

If we could hear the speech of the wind, the waters, the land, the beasts, the sky -- and the whisper ever-Present in the incredible occurence of more and more of us coming into life, what would we hear, if not "Yes"?

Thank you, Kathryn, for booting me out of hell (or at least out of the men's room) so often.

This is all great and inspiring and all, but I can't help wondering:
Is this New York style cheesecake? Plain or loaded?

It's 2:05 a.m., and I just roared with laughter. I think the dog is calling the cops on me.

NY style, plain -- for not only are we simple, but "one cannot improve upon perfection," as said in the greatest sobriety by first and second generations of Irish.

(You always have caramel and pecans in your cupboard, just in case some fussies show up, right?)

BTW - no fussies allowed.
This is serious business. But I DO have caramel and pecans available... Just in case...
