Some Thoughts for Lent
from Benedict XVI

Sacramentum Caritatis!

The Church's "thoughts" are the Spirit's "thoughts," so these are the best meditations of all:

Kathryn, if you make the Vatican code like the following I don't think it will run across the page as it does in my (Firefox) browser which many use:
http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/apost_exhortations/documents/hf_ben-xvi_exh_20070222_sacramentum-caritatis_en.html"> See Vatican document here

I think you forgot to close off the code after the link with a "> after the "html"

Hi Kthryn , I just found your blog via Elvira's blog :-) and I read this :
To live with the Spirit of God is to be a listener.
It is to keep the vigil of mystery,
earthless and still.
One leans to catch the stirring of the Spirit,
strange as the wind’s will.

The soul is all activity, all silence;
and though it surges Godward to its goal,
it holds, as moving earth holds sleeping noonday,
the peace that is the listening of the soul.

That is so beautiful . Thank You Ilike your blog . God Bless , Rox

Thank you, Kathryn. I am finally getting around to reading Deus Caritas Est, too, which is of course a recap of the faith. I usually race through these things with deeper lines forming on forehead, trying to grasp the meat of it all, as well as the reason for its timing.. but parsing it slowly paragraph by paragraph is sweet and filling. One could spend one's life reading Popes' words. But then the dust here would topple and suffocate the short dog, so it's rather out of the question for now. Plus, we must do something with all the instruction, with all the love.

God is good. So is PapaRatzi. One can nearly imagine Jesus breaking forth in Creation to say, "This is my beloved Vicar in whom I am well pleased; listen to him."

Finding the quiet time is the most difficult thing, I think, not just to read, but as you say, to parse and digest.

Thanks, Steve. I'll try to fix that.

Welcome to the Cospirazione, Florasita. I will check out Elvira's latest offering as well!

Will we ever in this lifetime have enough time to ponder God's truth and relish all the writings of His good servants? No. As Lily pointed out, we must DO something, and the doing takes most of our time. In Heaven we will at last rest and adore fully.

Meanwhile, we can rejoice and be grateful for the snippets we do absorb and the guidance of such good Popes - that does eventually filter down to us even at Sunday Mass, and the whole Church breathes the grace of the thoughts in these writings.

Praying you are all experiencing a deepening in this desert...

Or a desert in all this deepening! Yes.

Long live the Pope.
